A downloadable game for Windows

Journey throughout forbidden lands to lay your love to rest.

Grimbane is a dark fantasy metroidvania that draws inspiration from classics in the genre while spinning its twist in encouraging aggressive combat over full-scale exploration.

Grimbane is a dark tale set in a gothic fantasy world that takes the player on a journey of a scorned outcast. The player acts as an exiled hunter who is on a blood-filled quest to bury their dearly departed after a tragic accident took their life. Across the many distinct areas of the world, enemies, traps, and puzzles hinder the journey of The Exile. To lay their partner to rest, The Exile must path their way in blood through terrifying creatures, betrayal, and an unseen force that wants nothing but an end to their quest. Since The Exile does not care about their safety, they tend to act aggressively and irrationally. This is complemented by the reckless combat style the game calls for. A player can choose to stay defensive and calculated, but this will end up being a more difficult strategy to uphold. The Exile has a few allies left in the lands that assist in keeping track of their gains, tending to their tools, and providing treatment to their wounds.

Grimbane is currently in its pre-alpha phase of development. What you will see here in this project is the framework of gameplay for the full release. Players can enjoy exploring the tentative first area of the game, "The Forgotten Cathedral".

What To Expect From Future Updates

Meet Helpful (sometimes) NPCs

Pip, The Blacksmith
A rough and tumble, beefcake of a dwarf. Pip is the resident blacksmith for The Exile. She is surprisingly calm considering the world is crumbling around them.

Pip will allow The Exile to buy tools and upgrade the strength of their weapons.

Alric, The Bishop
A clergyman by trade. Alric is suspicious of The Exile and acts in a holier-than-thou manner towards anyone outside of the church. If given the opportunity, he is a good man at heart.

Alric will decipher texts and manuscripts that unlock new skills for The Exile.

Camazotz, The Interloper
Being a bat demon from the depths of hell will give you a pretty bad reputation, and well, Camazotz keeps up that reputation. They join the rank of The Exile, though their intentions are mischievous by nature.

Camazotz will share unfound secrets to The Exile, and offer a collection of unique items for sale.

Play Your Way

In Grimbane, there will be many intriguing items and unique abilities to outfit The Exile. Items are equipable augments to The Exile's playstyle. Effects such as increased damage taken to increase damage dealt, or reducing ability costs. Abilities are strange and powerful skills The Exile can use at the cost of their health.

Each and every player will be able to build The Exile in a fascinating new way!
